Weak seasonal demand pulls down PVC prices

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) rolled over its ex-works price for PVC this month, on account of weak demand. In similar fashion, Indianpetrochem observed from its price database, that the market price for imported PVC declined in major trading hubs across India, this month.

During July, 2014, the average price of PVC in Chennai and Ahmedabad markets was Rs. 93-94 per kg and Rs. 96-97 per kg, respectively. However, this month, the prices have reached levels of Rs. 91.5 per kg in Chennai and Rs.93-94 per kg in Ahmedabad market.

Indianpetrochem gathers that the demand for PVC is moderate during monsoon season as end users especially pipe manufacturers engage in limited purchasing. However, the demand from pipes industry picks up at the end of October, especially from agriculture and real estate construction sector.

Evaluating the stock position, its understood that the there are limited stocks of PVC in Chennai and Ahmedabad markets and trader at the moment are engaged in booking stocks of new material, in anticipation of a spike in demand in the near future.
