Toluene monthly review: 2015 doesn’t begin on a good note

With Crude oil almost breaking the $50 a bbl level, Toluene doesn’t seem to stabilize any soon. Indianpetrochem.com took a review of toluene prices from the 1st of December 2014 till date.

In South Korea toluene was traded on $ 733.5/MT FOB in the beginning of December 2014 but within one month only price decline by 20.5% to $582 per MT as on 5th Jan2015. Toluene prices followed the same trend for Rotterdam and prices decreased by 26% in one month to 558 per MT FOB as on 5th Jan2015.

US Gulf coast did not show any upward trend either and the price declined by 17.5% to 201.95 cent per Gal FOB. In Japan, prices of toluene slide down from $745 per MT CFR to $620 per MT CFR , around 16.7% decline noticed in one month for toluene. Over and above, in South East Asia, prices of toluene dwindle by 13.4% to $ 610/MT quotation as on 5th Jan2015.

In the domestic market, RIL decline its toluene price by Rs. 9 a kg to Rs. 48.50 a kg as on 18th December2014. Demand dropped drastically in major trading hubs of India and is not likely to rise till the end of this month.

Traders and importers maintained their “no buying” status. They are not expecting any rise in demand till February.
